Reading Room opening hours:
Monday until Friday, from 1.00 p.m. to 6 p.m. (with previous booking)

Is a private scope archives, aiming to study, preserve, enhance and disseminate the historical, cultural and technological heritage of Portuguese rail.

The Documentation Centre provides the following services:

At the Museum and Nucleus it is available a document, where visitors wishing to make collection of pictures, can fill in it and undertake themselves to the Foundation with its good and correct use. Or you can download the document and deliver it at the Museum’s Reception.

This file has an archival science, bibliographic and photographic documentation related with the rail in Portugal, where older documents date back from the 1950s, in the 19th century.

This documentary acquis comes from CP funds – Trains of Portugal; IMTT – Institute of Mobility and Land Transports,; and REFER – National Rail Network.

MNF has PDA’s that support the visit to the area of the Rotunda Locomotives, in Entroncamento. This equipment, in Portuguese and English and with speech, has information about the space itself and exhibited material, beyond interactive games for families. This equipment should be requested at the counter.

MNF has a physical and on-line shop, where you can buy different articles related to the railways. Among the Museum's own merchandising, also publications, toys, postcards, among others.

You should apply to the Director of the Museum museu@fmnf.pt. our question will be reviewed and forwarded to the technician responsible for the area in question, who will reply you back as quickly as possible.

The Reference Service is one of the functions Documentation Centre provides to its readers, where they will be welcomed and guided by archives technicians; however, this information service and research might be excessively burdened, according to the Price Table annexed to Regulation.
