The National Railway Documentation Centre, open since February 2009, is a centre specializing in railway documentation
                                          
The Documentation Centre has been created to collect and deal with diverse railway related documentation. The archival funds include documentation produced and accumulated in the course of activities developed by public and private entities in the railway domain within the chronological period of the XIX and XX centuries. The Documentation Centre received archive documentation deriving from historic funds of CP – Portuguese Trains, E.P. and from the funds
of  the extinct General Management of Portuguese Railways, property of the IMTT – Institute of Mobility and Land Transports, I.P. Included as well, technical bibliography, periodical publications and collections donated by private individuals.

The documental lot of the National Railway Documentation Centre assumes a significant importance as the heritage, memory and identity of the railway sector, contributing both to the business related history and to the local and national history.

The documentation is available for personal consultation by, previous appointment, in the installations of the Orient Railway Complex and by consultation through our data base, accessible on http://www.fmnf.pt/arquivo
